Every soccer game is the same length in terms of basic playing time. A match is divided into two halves, each lasting for 45 minutes of basic playing time. However, it is not said that the match will not be slightly longer. There is a break of 15 minutes between each half.
Any interruption in the game, such as a player change or an infraction, can affect the referee’s decision to extend the match time. The more such events occur during the basic playing time, the more minutes are added. The referee may add any number of additional minutes.
If the regulation playing time of 90 minutes is not able to determine the winner, there may be an overtime period, which is composed of two halves of 15 minutes each. It can also be extended by the referee.
